The Power of Gratitude: Transforming Our Perspectives
Since this is the season of Thanksgiving, we wanted to encourage you to take a moment and reflect on just how transformative the simple practice of gratitude can be. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives— deadlines, meetings, and endless to-do lists can make us forget to pause and appreciate the good around us. But eveloping a spirit of gratitude is more than just a feel-good activity; it’s a powerful tool that can shift your mindset and improve your overall well-being.
Gratitude as a Daily Practice
Gratitude is more than just saying "thank you." It's a deep appreciation for the good things in life, both big and small. It's recognizing the value of experiences, people, and things that enrich our lives, even when they may not be perfect.
So, what does it mean to practice gratitude? It’s about more than just saying “thank you” when someone holds the door open. It’s about actively seeking out the positives, even in challenging situations. We’ve found that taking just a few moments each day to reflect on what we’re grateful for can change our perspective entirely.
Try this: at the end of each day, jot down three things that brought you joy or comfort. They can be as small as your morning coffee or as significant as a heartwarming conversation with a friend. You’ll be surprised at how these small acknowledgments can add up and brighten your outlook.
Gratitude in Leadership
Now, let’s talk about gratitude in our professional lives. As leaders, creating a culture of gratitude within teams can have profound effects. When you recognize and appreciate your team members’ efforts, it boosts morale and encourages a collaborative environment.
Many times the people you lead don’t see their own potential, but they will believe in your dream and the vision you hold for them. Choose to believe in them! One thing you can do to facilitate this with your team is offer praise for a job well done. (And here’s a hint - this will work on your spouse and kids too.) Often it’s hard for leaders to give praise because as soon as one project is done - it’s off to the next. But take the time to give praise where praise is due. One of our favorite gratitude “hacks” is to implement super praise. For those that have trained with us, you are reading this and likely have already tried super praise.
Now as simple as those two words sound - super praise is mighty power. This is how it works----- you basically brag on someone, their talents, a job well done, or even the potential you see them and do this IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLE. Basically what you are doing when you use super praise is speaking something great about a person into their life - you speak it into their mind and heart and it’s reinforced because you told someone else that about them in front of them- and their natural human reaction to “live up to that”.
Now of course, and this goes without saying, all praise must come from an authentic belief or observation that you have. Anything contrived or fake will never work. But used correctly, praise and super praise can boost self-esteem, increase performance and supercharge productivity. And ultimately help you retain your people - a major hurdle many companies are facing. If you're uncomfortable doing this practice it...
The Ripple Effect of Gratitude

This creates a ripple effect that can transform our workplaces and communities.Let’s strive to be the catalysts for positivity in our circles.
